In 2019, Volvo launched the XC40 compact crossover, a boxy but stylish compact SUV with a 2.0-liter It’s called the XC40 Recharge, and the earliest versions aren’t cheap, priced from about $55,000 including delivery. My quick road test revealed both pros and cons of the XC40 Recharge. Until now, it’s had no plug-in option.

The Pacifica Hybrid has a regenerative braking system, which recharges the 16-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion (li-ion) battery. So driving around town, stuck in stop-and-go rush hour highway traffic, or coasting down hills recharges the battery. The battery recharge and electric mile range are metered instantly by dash gauges.

For electric vehicles, the BBBA includes multiple proposed changes to IRC 30D, more commonly knows as the federal EV tax credit. Perhaps the mostly likely is the requirement for EVs to be assembled in the US in a union factory to qualify for an additional $4,500 tax credit. Tax Credit Becomes Refundable. More on this below.

Tax credit incentives are also available to consumers in the U.S. Better Place is building stations in San Francisco, Hawaii, Israel, and Denmark to swap out 1,000 pound batteries in a car wash type set up. The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants.
