General Motors sidesteps loss of EV tax credit to offer big discounts for customers “We won’t get to low to single-digit profitability until 2025,” CFO Paul Jacobson said about EBIT EV margins. Those projections are based on the current expectations for EV demand and production growth.

The Lightning was the second electric truck to hit the market after the Rivian R1T, but the field has grown more crowded in recent times with the release of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, both direct competitors to the Ford. The Blue Oval has an existing offer for Tesla drivers that provides up to $1,500 off the truck.

General Motors has already pushed back production of several key electric models, including the Equinox EV, Silverado EV, and GMC Sierra Denali EV. After regaining eligibility for the $7,500 EV tax credit, the Chevy Blazer EV 2LT AWD starts at $42,695 (including the credit). GM lowered Blazer EV prices by up to $6,500.
