Ford Motor Company and Azure Dynamics Corporation are introducing a passenger wagon version of the Ford TransitConnect Electric. The wagon is a logical next step for Azure and Ford which first introduced an electrified TransitConnect in December 2010. Earlier post.). The wagon has a top speed of 75 mph (121 km/h).

The Dutch energy company Eneco has signed contracts for the purchase of 50 Smith Ampere electric commercial vans, the electric version of the Ford TransitConnect, to be delivered in 2009 and 2010. Taxi Medallion Management in Chicago has purchased 12 Ford TransitConnect Taxis running on compressed natural gas (CNG) for its fleet. The purchase is part of the company’s goal of reducing emissions by 25%, said Michael Levine, CEO of Taxi Medallion Management. The taxis have a 39-foot turning radius.
Awards include (ranked by amount): PHL Taxi Management LLC —$900,000 – to purchase and deploy 50 new CNG taxis in Philadelphia that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and to build a publicly accessible CNG fueling station in the city. Lower Merion School District —$121,641 – to purchase and use nine CNG school buses.
Any purchaser of a program electric vehicle (Chevrolet Volt, Ford TransitConnect, Ford Focus Electric, BMW ActiveE, Nissan LEAF, smart fortwo electric drive or Fisker Karma), whose home is located within one of the ten target regions, may be eligible to receive a home charging station at no cost.

In addition to Fusion Hybrid, SimplexGrinnell also purchased 200 units of Ford Focus, 50 of Taurus, 28 Fusion gas models and a handful of Edge vehicles. Janice Buxton, senior manager of Fleet Services for SimplexGrinnell, says the company also is looking to integrate the Ford TransitConnect into its fleet.

In the next year, Ford will offer eight commercial vehicles with a gaseous-prep option: TransitConnect van and wagon. Transit van, wagon, cutaway and chassis cab. AT&T recently purchased 650 F-350 chassis cabs with the CNG-prep option. CNG sells for an average of $2.11 per gallon. F53 and F59 stripped chassis.

The first new 2010 Ford Taurus sedans were delivered at the end of July, as well as the first TransitConnects. Ford Ranger sales totaled 7,695, up 65% versus a year ago. Ford Flex sales totaled 3,631, up 65% versus a year ago. Toyota Motor Sales, USA (TMS) reported July sales of 174,872, down 11.4% year-on-year. compared to June 2009.
For some Americans it gives a chance to drive and experience a different car, maybe an electric car they might be thinking of purchasing. This configuration (and of course mass transit) are the only real solutions to the growing congestion and driving frustration. We covered the start-up here.
