The city of Boston this week became the first municipality in America to approve the Ford Transit Connect for taxi use, paving the way for taxi owners to purchase the new vehicle for their fleets. To be approved for taxi use, a vehicle must meet basic size requirements for headroom, legroom and cargo space.

Taxi Medallion Management in Chicago has purchased 12 Ford Transit Connect Taxis running on compressed natural gas (CNG) for its fleet. The purchase is part of the company’s goal of reducing emissions by 25%, said Michael Levine, CEO of Taxi Medallion Management.

Nissan NV200 NYC Taxi. The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has selected the Nissan NV200 as the exclusive taxi of New York City for a decade, beginning in late 2013. New York City is adding 70 electric vehicles to its fleet: 50 new Chevrolet Volts, 10 fully electric Ford Transit Connect cargo vans, and 10 new fully electric Navistar E-star utility trucks. The Administration is also working towards the use of electric vehicles in the City’s fleet of more than 13,000 yellow taxis.
