What I assumed would be a quick chat quickly devolved into my being educated on British tax codes, especially the benefit-in-kind (BIK) taxes applied to any items of value provided to employees. For corporate automobiles that also see private use, benefit-in-kind taxes are calculated as a perk on top of the base salary.

Outside of the EU, the United Kingdom also passed a law banning the sale of new gasoline and diesel vehicles by 2030, with hybrids and plug-in-hybrids granted an extension to 2035. There are currently over 330,000 public charging stations in the EU, compared with just under 120,000 ports in the United States.

Possibilities include dramatic reductions in the cost of EV batteries that lead to more cost- competitive vehicles, greater state or federal incentives, or increasing taxes on fossil fuels. Germany, the United Kingdom, several Nordic countries, Japan, and South Korea are continuing to pursue their hydrogen infrastructure roadmaps.
