Yunasko and others have demonstrated 35 Wh/kg, with the intermediate supercabatteries, matching lead-acid and NiCd batteries. They have replaced Li-ion batteries in most Chinese buses, despite greater up-front price. Maxwell Technologies expects tripling current energy density with pure supercapacitors.

A couple of years ago, the market for nickel sulfate was largely driven by the plating industry and non-Li-ion battery applications such as NiMH and NiCd batteries with stagnated y-o-y growth. Production of these feedstock materials is going to have to grow to satisfy the growing demand for nickel sulfate by the battery industry.
