The NewJersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) announced the adoption of the Advanced Clean Truck and Fleet Reporting rules. The adoption of these rules establishes NewJersey as one of the first states to require phasing in of clean electric commercial trucks to replace diesel-powered trucks.
The Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule requires the sale of at least 30% zero-emission trucks by 2030; the HDV Omnibus rule requires a 90% reduction in NO x emissions from Model Year 2027 engines; and the California Phase 2 greenhouse gas rule sets standards to improve the efficiency of tractor-trailers.
Earlier this week, NewJersey officials announced plans to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035. The ban is NewJersey’s effort to improve the air quality in the state. The gas car ban is NewJersey’s first step toward zero-emissions vehicles. The rule will only apply to new car sales.
