Neste Oil, the world’s largest producer of renewable diesel (NExBTL), has signed a contingent commercial off-take agreement with Cellana, an algae biomass developer based in the United States. The agreement will enable Neste Oil to purchase Cellana’s algae oil for use as a feedstock in the future for producing renewable fuel.

Neste Oil has successfully started up Europe’s largest renewable diesel plant in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Production of NExBTL renewable diesel at the new plant—the company’s fourth—will be ramped up on a phased basis. The plant was completed on-schedule and on-budget.

The Royal Netherlands Air Force concluded a test flight of a Boeing AH-64D Apache helicopter powered by a 50% blend of renewable jet fuel produced by UOP, a Honeywell company. Royal Dutch Shell will build an 820,000-tonnes-a-year biofuels facility at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam, the Netherlands, formerly known as the Pernis refinery. Once built, the facility will be among the largest in Europe to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel made from waste.
