The University of Michigan and Ford Motor Company are opening a new advanced robotics facility. The fourth floor houses Ford’s first robotics and mobility research lab on a university campus, as well as 100 Ford researchers—including autonomous vehicle researchers—and engineers.

Researchers at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) are developing a small-scale demonstration reactor that will process 40 tons of wood waste per year from the university into replacements for diesel fuel and gasoline. Researchers at KU Leuven and the University of Lubumbashi have now shown that cobalt mining takes a high toll on both the creuseurs—the ‘diggers’ who work in the mines, often by hand—and on the environment. Their paper is published in the journal Nature Sustainability. The new works confirms the health risks of cobalt mining.

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell made the announcement at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. CT&T makes low- and mid-speed, short-distance neighborhood electric vehicles that pass crash tests required for regular passenger cars. The vehicles sell for about $12,000.
