Two autonomous taxis, from Pony.ai So far, around three in every 100 taxis there are robotaxis, developed by Baidu s autonomous car division, Apollo Go. Because a robotaxi doesnt contend with driver fatigue, the number of rides it can run per day can be greater than that of a nonautomated taxi. What about the economics?

Waymo announced that it is partnering with Japanese taxi company Nihon Kotsu for the initial phase, where human drivers will operate Waymos cars so that the software can map the city. In early 2025, the company will begin testing its Jaguar I-PACE vehicles in Tokyo, with plans to stay in the region for the foreseeable future.
