Chevron announces successful test well at deepwater St. Malo in Gulf of Mexico

Malo PS003 well in the prolific Lower Tertiary trend in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Oil flow rates, though limited by testing equipment constraints, exceeded 13,000 barrels of oil per day. Malo development is located approximately 280 miles (450 km) south of New Orleans, Louisiana, in 7,000 feet (2,134 m) of water.

Chevron Corporation announced a new oil discovery at the Moccasin prospect in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. 1 encountered more than 380 feet of net pay in the Lower Tertiary Wilcox Sands. Chevron is one of the largest leaseholders in the Gulf of Mexico and is currently developing the $7.5 billion Jack/St.

Chevron sanctions $4B Big Foot Project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico

Chevron Corporation has sanctioned development of its $4-billion Big Foot project in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. Big Foot will be Chevron’s sixth operated facility in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and located approximately 225 miles (360 km) south of New Orleans, Louisiana, in water depths of 5,200 feet (1,600 m).

BP announces significant resource extension of Mad Dog Field in deepwater Gulf Of Mexico; total hydrocarbons estimated at up to 4B barrels of oil equivalent

BP announced today the drilling of a successful appraisal well in a previously untested northern segment of the Mad Dog field in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. The well encountered about 166 net feet (50 meters) of hydrocarbons in the objective Miocene hydrocarbon-bearing sands and discovered an oil column of more than 300 feet (91 meters).

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation announced that its Shenandoah-2 well in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico encountered more than 1,000 net feet of oil pay in multiple high-quality Lower Tertiary-aged reservoirs. with a 20% working interest; Venari Resources LLC with a 10% working interest; and Marathon Oil Company with a 10% working interest.

Study Finds That Major Hurricanes Produce Seabed Forces as Deep as 90m That Could Threaten Gulf Oil Pipelines

These forces could snap offshore oil pipelines in the Gulf of Mexico and other hurricane-prone areas, the study suggests. The Gulf of Mexico (GOM) region provides nearly 30% of the United States oil supply and 20% of its natural gas. A hurricane might also create its own spills, the new research indicates.
