Ford Motor Company’s US hybrid sales for the first nine months of 2009 are 73% higher than the same period in 2008, fueled by the introduction of hybrid versions of the 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, which went on sale in March 2009. The front-wheel-drive Escape Hybrid delivers 34 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway.

For MY 2010, the Prius is the top fuel economy leader , with EPA ratings of 51/48 mpg city/highway. The estimate is calculated based on the vehicle’s miles per gallon (mpg) rating and national estimates for annual mileage and fuel prices. Buyers of a new 2010 Fusion Hybrid or Mercury Milan Hybrid this year will qualify for a $3,400 tax credit. The Fusion Hybrid carries a 41 mpg rating in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. Customers who purchase a Ford or Mercury brand hybrid by March 31, 2009 will remain eligible for the full tax credit amounts.

Ford, Lincoln and Mercury retail sales increased 9% versus a year ago. Other results included: Ford Fusion sales totaled 17,610, a July record and up 66% versus a year ago, and Mercury Milan sales were up 60%. Ford Escape sales totaled 20,241, a July record and up 94% versus a year ago, and Mercury Mariner sales were up 71%.
