In less than six months, General Motors has unveiled three separate 2016 vehicles that use its hybrid and plug-in hybrid Voltec powertrain. The Chevrolet Volt and Malibu Hybrid, and the Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid, span three different vehicle segments.

The second-generation Chevrolet Volt is important not only as a high-volume plug-in hybrid, but also because components from its Voltec powertrain are designed to be used in other GM models. Last year, General Motors unveiled the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, with a powertrain very similar to the Volt's.

General Motors is getting a lot of mileage out of the second-generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt's plug-in hybrid powertrain. Both the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid (without a plug) and the 2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid feature powertrains based on the newest iteration of the Voltec hardware.
