Lexus has brought its Hybrid Bicycle concept, first introduced at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, to the UK, in conjunction with the announcement of Lexus’ title sponsorship of the Great British Bike Ride, a four-day charity fun ride that will see hundreds of cyclists following a course from Land’s End to the home of English rugby at Twickenham.

Toyota Motor Europe (TME) reported that sales of hybrids have increased 45% so far this year compared with the same period in 2015—which was already a record year. 31% of Toyota Motor Europe’s customers have opted for a hybrid powertrain in 2016; 41% in Western Europe alone. —Karl Schlicht. Hybrid sales already account for 23% of Toyota Motor Europe’s (TME’s) total sales year-to-date. In August, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that Toyota and Lexus combined had sold more than eight million hybrid cars worldwide since the launch of the Toyota Prius in 1997. Two-thirds of the hybrid sales in Europe are made in Europe.

Total combined Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicle sales in the US have topped the one million mark, according to Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA. Overall, cumulative worldwide sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrids have exceeded 1.7 million vehicles through January of this year.

The LS 600h sold 33 units, a decrease of 68.6%, representing 3.7% of all LS sales. Total LS model sales dropped 52.6% General Motors. Total Rx sales were down 3.5% to 6,520 units. The GS 450h sold 41 units, down 35.9% year-on year, representing 4.6% of GS models sold. Total GS sales were down 39.3% to 898 units.

The GS 450h hybrid posted a 63% drop year-on-year to 27 units, while the LS 600h saw a 57.5% Sales of the conventional GS models were down 63% year-on-year, while sales of conventional LS models were down 47%.
