Toyota reveals second iteration of Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell truck: Project Portal 2.0; 300 miles per fill

The new truck, known internally as “Beta,” expands on the capabilities of Toyota’s first Project Portal test vehicle by increasing the estimated range to more than 300 miles per fill. More than 16,000 pollution-emitting trucks are working in Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, a number that is estimated to balloon to 32,000 by 2030.

Meritor collaborating with Peterbilt on all-electric Class 8 trucks; selects UQM as supplier for e-axles

At WasteExpo 2017, Peterbilt displayed a Model 520 refuse truck equipped with the Transpower ElecTruck drive system, which has accumulated over 80,000 miles of Class 8 heavy duty use in a variety of commercial applications since 2013. Two 520 refuse haulers will be tested by Sacramento County and a waste hauler will operate one truck.

US DOE Awards $300 Million in Clean Cities Grants to Support Alternative Fuels, Vehicles, and Infrastructure Development

The project will replace 180 diesel drayage trucks at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach with LNG trucks. This initiative demonstrates and promote of the feasibility of alternative fuel sources, education and public outreach, and reduction of pollution/emissions. Total DOE award: $5,924,190. The first phase of this $32-million refinery is slated to be operating within a year of funding, producing 5 million gallons a year of biodiesel made from waste vegetable oils obtained from restaurants and commercial food producers, and animal fats obtained from rendering operations. CNG is much less polluting than conventional diesel.
