Honda selected Toshiba Corporation’s SCiB rechargeable Li-ion battery to power the Fit EV. Toshiba will supply battery modules for the new car, which Honda will launch in summer 2012 in Japan and the US. The SCiB generates little heat even during this fast recharging, eliminating the need for power to cool the battery module.

The consortium has already selected the Mitsubishi i-MiEV as its preferred vehicle for testing. A four-seater saloon with zero emission, it is now being introduced in Japan. The electric battery, long a stumbling block for the development of electric cars, is guaranteed for 10 years and allows a range of 100 miles before recharging.

Peugeot has released the specifications for the iOn EV—based on the Mitsubishi iMiEV ( earlier post )—in advance of the Paris Auto Show. The motor is supplied with a 330 V three-phase alternating current (AC) from the inverter which is supplied with a 330 V direct current (DC) from the main battery pack.

Last week it began taking pre-bookings for the Peugeot i0n model ( see article ), which is based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. The batteries can be recharged in six hours or to 80 per cent capacity in 30minutes using a fast charge system. Its first electric vehicle was the Peugeot 106 Electric, which was sold between 1995 and 2003.
