The City of Bogota, Colombia, has launched a pilot project to spur the use of electric vehicles in Bogota’s center-city taxi fleet. The first taxis are expected to be operational in the city in the next few months. Bogota’s project will improve local air quality and noise pollution.

Nissan NV200 NYC Taxi. The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has selected the Nissan NV200 as the exclusive taxi of New York City for a decade, beginning in late 2013. If the pilot proves successful, the City will explore the possibility of the wider use of electric-powered taxis. Taxi of Tomorrow.

Transport for London (TfL) recently announced a package of measures to tackle pollution levels at the busiest roads in central London. This kicks off with a small team of eco-marshals who will monitor taxi ranks at busy central London mainline stations and other on street ranks where air quality is particularly poor. Eco-marshals.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has renewed calls for scrapping the most polluting diesel cars and giving drivers cash incentives to switch to cleaner vehicles as part of the evidence he gave to the Environmental Audit Committee today. They now feel very hacked off now they’re told they are more polluting.

A team of engineers from the University of Lincoln, with funding from the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), has confirmed the feasibility of aircraft regenerate braking from the landing gear to provide power for taxiing to and from airport buildings, reducing the need to use jet engines.
