Two months after first introducing its first-ever lease program for the R1T pickup, Rivian has expanded the offers to now include its other flagship EV – the R1S SUV. At the time, we reported Rivian’s plans to expand the lease program to custom-built R1Ts and, eventually, R1S SUVs. That brings the total to 16 states in all.

The Nikkei reports that Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will reduce the output capacity of its US plant in Illinois by 55% to 50,000 units, from its current annual capacity of 110,000 units. To improve its bottom line, Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc., which operates the plant, has carried out a series of layoffs since fiscal 2004.

The second quarter production and delivery results include Rivian’s R1T pickup, R1S SUV, and all-electric Amazon delivery van. Meanwhile, the Rivian R1S SUV starts with the Adventure Package at $78,000.

The publication’s sources claimed that the two automakers are also open to joint activities in vehicle production and hardware, specifically with regards to Volkswagen’s upcoming EVs from its US brand Scout Motors. Considering that Scout Motors is also developing SUVS and pickups , the brand may seem like a great match for Rivian.
