Mitsubishi does plug-in hybrids (like in the Outlander ), Toyota does conventional hybrids (like the RAV4 ), and Nissan does e-Power. It’s not actually as fuel efficient as a conventional hybrid (and, for now at least, it’s more expensive, too), but Nissan says it’s far more fun to drive. 100km offered by the RAV4 Hybrid.

The memory effect of the battery is written in a cycle with partial charging (here, 50% of the battery’s storage capacity) followed by complete discharge. In the subsequent cycle, the memory effect is evident through an overvoltage (small “bump”) at precisely the same point at which the partial charging cycle terminates.

Toyota has released more detail on the powertrain of the new Lexus CT 200h premium compact dedicated hybrid ( earlier post ); Toyota plans to introduce it to the US market in early 2011. Check out the new Nissan Leaf on video: You’ve got to love the fact that Nissan had balls and the vision to bank their future on full on electric vehicles, leapfrogging their Japanese competition Honda and Toyota whose timid and safe bet on hybrids has already marked them as bridge technology car makers. Really Ford?
