The Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV, a plug-in series hybrid model that uses a rotary engine as a generator, made its world premiere at the Brussels Motor Show. Mazda chose to use a rotary engine to power this generator, taking advantage of a rotary engine’s unique ability to produce the required output with a small power unit.

Mazda Motor Europe unveiled its new crossover SUV, the CX-60. The CX-60 is the first of Mazda’s Large Product group models, and offers (European specification model) e-Skyactiv PHEV, Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid system featuring a 2.5-liter liter e-Skyactiv X gasoline engine, both featuring Mazda’s 48V mild hybrid system.

Mazda Motor Corporation will introduce the Mazda2 Hybrid in Europe from the spring of 2022. The Mazda2 Hybrid will be an OEM model supplied by Toyota Motor Europe, a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, and will be added to the Mazda2 lineup in Europe and sold as Mazda's own brand vehicle.

Mazda Motor Corp. will use its hydrogen-fueled rotary engine technology ( earlier post ) as a range extender for an electric vehicle it plans to start leasing next year, according to Mazda President Takashi Yamanouchi as reported in The Nikkei. Mazda, a latecomer to the EV market, plans to close the gap with Nissan Motor Co.

In Hiroshima, Mazda Motor Corporation announced plans to expand its SUV lineup globally starting from 2022. The Mazda CX-50 is a crossover SUV that will be added as a new core model to the lineup and be introduced in the US market, where a strong SUV presence as well as off-road performance are in high demand.
