The 2013 Lexus GS450h is the hybrid model of Lexus' new GS sport sedan. It slots between the ES and LS in the Lexus range--and like those models, the GS450h now offers more dramatic, distinctive styling, better performance, and better EPA economy figures. The EPA rates the 2013.
When the original Lexus GS450h debuted in 2007, it entered the market as the world’s first hybrid luxury sport sedan. Time moves on quickly in the automotive world, and today the Lexus GS450h has hybrid challengers from Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and even upstart Fisker.
While Lexus unveiled its all-new 2013 GS 350 sports sedan at the recent Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, it showed off only the gasoline GS 350 model. Details of the future hybrid version, the 2013 Lexus GS450h, remain under cover until the company launches the car officially at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
The fourth generation Lexus GS first went on sale in Europe in 2012 as a three model range comprising the GS 250, GS 350 AWD and the high-performance flagship, the full hybrid GS450h. The new GS 300h is equipped with a second-generation Lexus Hybrid Drive system similar to that installed in the IS 300h.
It's not yet in dealerships, but the 2013 Lexus GS450h offers a big boost in gas mileage for buyers of mid-size sport sedans. The all-new GS450h hybrid is expected to be rated at 29 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, for a combined rating of 31 mpg.
Succeeded by the RX 450h in 2009, it has claimed the largest share of Lexus hybrid sales (51.2%), with 259,000 units sold through to November this year. Lexus’s second hybrid model, the GS450h, was introduced in 2006 and was the first premium production sedan to be fitted with a rear-wheel drive full hybrid powertrain.
Toyota has released new or updated pricing information on the 2013 RX 450h hybrid crossover and the GS450h hybrid sedan. While the new GS450h will carry the same list price as the model it replaces, the RX 450h gets revised pricing that’s now $675 higher for front-drive models and $485 higher for all-wheel-drive models.

Hybrids are great. Economical, clean, soothing, relaxing, quiet, thrilling. Okay, perhaps not the last one, as thrills are conspicuously absent from many hybrids on the market today. However, some carmakers are changing that image with powerful and luxurious models--and Lexus is one of those carmakers. How better to show off the new, edgy breed.
They are Prius Liftback, Prius v, Prius c, Prius Plug-in, Camry Hybrid, Avalon Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, Lexus CT 200h, ES 300h, GS450h, LS 600h and RX 450h. Twelve of the models are available in the United States, including seven from Toyota and five from Lexus.
Lexus remains the only premium brand in Europe to offer three full hybrids as part of its range: the GS450h, the LS 600h and the newly-launched RX 450h. The third generation Toyota Prius, which is currently being launched in Europe, has generated more than 17,000 additional customer orders since June 2009.
We can think of a few, particularly when it comes to some of the hybrid luxury sedans on the market, such as the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid or Lexus GS450h, and there are a few on the horizon too, like the Acura NSX plug-in hybrid supercar. Can you think of a desirable hybrid?

One year later in April 2006, the Lexus GS450h made its debut as the world’s first front-engine, rear-wheel drive, full-hybrid performance sedan. In April 2005, Lexus introduced the crossover RX 400h, the world’s first hybrid-powered luxury vehicle. Two months later Toyota launched the Highlander Hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV).
The GS450h sold 41 units, down 35.9% of GS models sold. Total GS sales were down 39.3% Total Highlander sales were down 53.3% to 5,757 units. The Rx 400h posted 1,556 units, an increase of 28.5% year-on-year, representing 23.9% of Rx models sold. Total Rx sales were down 3.5% to 6,520 units. to 898 units.

There's the Lexus GS450h, and of course the Honda Accord Hybrid, which rather than focusing on high mileage was aimed at a more tech-savvy premium performance buyer that never materialized. Performance hybrid systems don't have a record for being strong sellers.
