Here at Green Energy Consumers Alliance, we talk a lot about the need for managed charging programs for electric vehicles (EVs), both to reduce stress on our electric grid and to incentivize more EV adoption. So, we’re excited to announce that RhodeIsland Energy (RIE) has just launched a new Electric Vehicle Demand Response (EVDR) program.
On March 10 th , the RhodeIsland Public Utilities Commission held a public hearing on electricity rates. The hearing was picked up by several news outlets and some excerpts from the news coverage were disseminated through social media. We heard one thing that we suspected was wildly incorrect.
It is true that RhodeIsland is small. Much of the meager wind power that does exist comes either from other states or from the 30-megawatt Block Island Wind Farm—the first offshore wind farm in the US—which consists of just five turbines and only came online in 2016. But analysts are optimistic that RhodeIsland can do the job.
We're excited to announce the start of something good in RhodeIsland. Better yet, starting in May, customers enrolled in these aggregations will pay a lower rate than what would be charged by RhodeIsland Energy.
The utility company National Grid has leveraged an electric school bus to help meet peak demand for electricity for the first time, in Beverly, Massachusetts. The National Grid supplies electricity to Massachusetts, New York, and RhodeIsland.

A few months ago, news broke that National Grid planned to sell the Narragansett Electric and Gas Companies to a Pennsylvania-based company named PPL. In its deal with PPL, National Grid hopes to gain PPL’s business in the U nited Kingdom in exchange for RhodeIsland’s electric and gas customers.
This land area is larger than the State of RhodeIsland and almost as large as the State of Delaware. These megawatt-class power plants are scalable for multi-megawatt applications with large power users or electric grid support. million tons of carbon dioxide—equivalent to the carbon sequestered by about 1.4
States joining with California on the effort to accelerate deployment of zero-emission trucks and buses are Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, RhodeIsland and Vermont. This new medium- and heavy-duty vehicle collaborative effort will also be implemented through the ZEV Task Force and facilitated by NESCAUM.
Until recently, commercial fleet EV operators could only use unidirectional chargers, meaning the power went from the grid to the EV, costing the EV owner money. Fermata Energy has V2X bidirectional programs working in several New England utilities, including Green Mountain Power, Eversource, and RhodeIsland Energy.
National Grid, a utility that serves more than 20 million people in New York, Massachusetts, and RhodeIsland, is expanding its Off-Peak Charging Rebate Program in Massachusetts that it runs with ev.energy , a certified B corporation and global provider of managed EV charging software.
Background. Recently, we posted a blog on one policy, the Clean Heat Standard, to decarbonize the building sector. Consider it one tool in the tool chest and understand that it’s usually not possible to make anything with just one tool. With this blog, we will explore a complimentary policy – Building Performance Standards (BPS).
RhodeIsland is headed in the wrong direction when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions. And it underscores the challenge before RhodeIsland in meeting the 2021 Act on Climate mandate of 45% emissions reductions from the 1990 baseline in 2030.
Electric vehicle drivers can, of course, use navigation systems, apps, and websites to find places to charge up, but utility company National Grid, which serves New York, RhodeIsland, and Massachusetts, today launched EV Road Trip plans featuring fun destinations with charging stations in the three Northeastern states.
The plan focuses on overcoming three key challenges: the relatively high cost of offshore wind energy; technical challenges surrounding installation, operations, and grid interconnection; and. the lack of site data and experience with project permitting processes.
Fuel cell technology can help meet electric grid needs as a high efficiency, distributed generation asset that can be located directly at the customer’s site. RhodeIsland. In 2013, 8 states committed and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) requiring large-volume automakers to sell approximately 3.3 Earlier post.).

The proposals for each state are visible in this Joint Office of Energy and Transportation resource and they give a clear picture of the enormous diversity in EV charging nationwide: EV charging corridors account for less than 1,000 miles in 21 states (just 44 miles in RhodeIsland). Network connectivity of EV charging structure.
Meeting climate goals anywhere, including Massachusetts and RhodeIsland, depends upon electrifying everything – cars, space heating, water heating, stoves, and clothes dryers. Combustion has to be phased out. Federal and state purchase incentives for many of those items help level the playing field on an up-front cost basis.
