The challenges involved in getting EV chargers hooked up to the grid are well-known to Charged readers. Various off-grid solutions are available, but the best approach may be a flexible one—using some combination of onsite generation, battery storage and grid power, according to what’s available and what’s needed for the application.
Researchers at WMG, University of Warwick, have repurposed end-of-life electric vehicle batteries as small energy storage systems (ESS) for off-grid locations in developing countries or isolated communities. How to keep it low cost and easy maintenance, while providing an interface that is easy to use and understand.
They will also establish a maintenance program for the trucks, as part of Lion’s expanding network of Experience Centers. Lion’s trucks are purpose-built for electric propulsion, provide for modularity in energy capacity, are agnostic on charging technology, are vehicle-to-grid enabled, and have a range of up to 250 miles.
Total Smart Grid costs. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has released a broad assessment of the costs and benefits to modernize the US electricity system and deploy the smart grid. The analysis updates EPRI’s 2004 EPRI assessment, which estimated the cost of implementing a smart grid at $165 billion. Source: EPRI.
D-Middlesex, is the primary sponsor, would fund for three years the purchase of new electric school buses and the necessary charging infrastructure in a minimum of 18 New Jersey school districts. The bill (S4077) , of which Senator Patrick J. Diegnan Jr.,

The truck will be unique on US roads when Con Edison takes possession early next year, running entirely on electricity as it lifts lineworkers and equipment as high as 60 feet for construction, maintenance and repair work. While initially small in scope, this represents an important step in Con Edison’s journey toward fleet electrification.
In addition to the fuel savings, electric vehicles typically require less maintenance than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, which means lower maintenance costs. Fifty-five percent of respondents cited the initial purchase price of electric commercial vehicles as the top barrier.
Laredo Bus Facility Solar Canopies: Provide shade structures with integrated, grid tied photovoltaic cells to be erected on the bus storage lot at the Laredo Bus Maintenance Facility. It would also fund stationary fuel cells to provide primary and emergency back-up power for the bus maintenance and storage facilities.
Widely ignored, although gaining attention, is China’s strategic positioning as a crucial gatekeeper to several key “green” technologies, including battery energy storage to support electric vehicles (EVs)—specifically, battery electric vehicles (BEVs)—along with stationary storage for power grids.
These include long dwell times, high power demand from the grid, availability and reliability issues, and the need for end-users to deal with heavy cables, dirty connectors, and buggy user interfaces. Battery-swapping technology aims to address the shortcomings of conductive fast-charging.
TWC systems are lighter and less expensive than SCR systems, and do not require the use of diesel emission fluid (DEF), resulting in lower capital, operating, and maintenance costs for the aftertreatment system. per mile lower than diesel trucks in over-the-road applications.
They wanted to see whether an electric vehicle could feed electricity back to the grid. The company’s president, Tom Gage , dubbed the system “vehicle to grid” or V2G. And EV owners would become entrepreneurs, selling electricity back to the grid. And indeed, that’s how promoters of vehicle-to-grid technology perceive the EV.
Standardizing PEV batteries could reduce the purchase and ownership costs of PEVS, as well as addressing additional consumer issues such as maintenance and safety. The stored, compressed air will be used to generate electricity on an “on demand” basis to meet the facility’s needs, including periods of high demand or grid outages.
Nuvve’s proprietary V2G technology utilizes high-powered bidirectional charging stations, which not only charge the batteries but also discharge energy from the batteries back into the power grid as needed to help balance temporary spikes in electricity demand. BYD and Levo Mobility, a joint venture of Nuvve Holding Corp.,
With less hardware to purchase and less equipment to install, the multi-dispenser charging solution lowers the cost of infrastructure for customers. Proterra chargers are also vehicle-to-grid capable and smart-grid ready.
The paper, “Charged Up: Southern California Edison’s Key Learnings about Electric Vehicles, Our Customers and Grid Reliability,” shares information based on customer data and utility operations gathered since SCE began to prepare the distribution system and its customers for widespread electric vehicle (EV) adoption in its service territory.
It will reduce the need to take wind turbines offline when the local grid is congested and will therefore enable us to harness more wind power. Swissgas, which represents more than 100 local natural gas utilities, is a partner in the project with a 20% capital stake and an agreement to purchase a portion of the gas produced.
The company has also granted the underwriters a 45-day option to purchase up to an additional 450,000 shares of common stock to cover over-allotments, if any. Ideal Power Inc., per share, to result in gross proceeds of $15 million. If the total over-allotment is exercised, Ideal Power expects the gross proceeds from the offering to be $17.25
There have been vigorous debates pro and con in the United States and elsewhere over whether electric grids can support EVs at scale. The city has provided incentives for the purchase of both EVs and charging ports, the installation of heat-pump water heaters , and the installation of solar and battery-storage systems.
Proterra announced that the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) and Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) have agreed to purchase electric buses and chargers from Proterra, becoming the 100 th customer for the company. DTE Energy will work with DDOT, SMART and Proterra on the charging infrastructure.
The demonstration vehicles include tree maintenance trucks and a telephone pole installation truck. million project to demonstrate vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology for an all-electric heavy duty non-tactical vehicle fleet at Los Angeles Air Force Base. The Department of Defense is providing $2.75 Department of Energy.
Property owners considering the purchase of a PV system who need unbaised information prior to collecting bids from contractors. By “ utility interactive&# they mean what’s commonly called grid-tied solar. That’s a PV system that’s connected to the same electric grid you currently get your electricity from.
million) to ITM Power before follow-on contracts such as maintenance agreements. HDF will be responsible for the purchase, installation, operation and maintenance of the station, as well as the preparation of the HRS site. The contract is worth €1.5 million (US$1.7 The HRS will be commissioned mid-2017.
The interim report considers PEV manufacturers, dealers and customers; the charging infrastructure; and the electric grid. Lack of familiarity with the vehicles and their operation and maintenance creates a substantial barrier to widespread PEV deployment. PEVs have higher purchase prices than comparable conventional vehicles.

Any purchaser of a program electric vehicle (the Chevrolet Volt; the Ford Transit Connect and Ford Focus Electric; or the smart fortwo electric drive), whose home is located within one of the nine target regions, will be eligible to receive a home charging station at no cost. The remaining stations will be installed by September 2011.
This means that the operating expenses, such as the purchase of power, grid connection fees, licence costs, land lease, cleaning and maintenance costs were covered by the revenues generated at those stations. Fastned expects that more stations will pass the break-even point in the coming months.
The team had expected that electric truck costs would always be higher, especially since the purchase price of the electric truck studied was higher than that of the diesel truck. The total cost of ownership (TCO) for electric and diesel trucks comprised purchase cost, maintenance cost, fuel or electricity cost, EVSE cost, and battery cost.
