Residual methanol and light hydrocarbons are separated downstream and recycled into the process. In subsequent project phases of P2X, the green OTTO-R fuel will be used in tests by Audi and VW.

At a ceremony held at the Royal Thames Yacht Club last week, Gideon Goudsmit of African Cats BV was presented with the Royal Thames Mansura Trophy for the performance of the catamaran Green Motion, developed by the company in Durban SA. The Green Motion system is a full-electric retractable propulsion and generation system for sailing yachts.

This development is a significant step towards the implementation of CO 2 hydrogenation technology in South Africa. In the indirect pathway, CO 2 and green hydrogen are first converted to synthesis gas either by co-electrolysis or over a catalyst. Sasol’s suite of cobalt catalysts is highly efficient for the latter process.

In the US, construction of a typical light rail system averages $70 million per mile or more. By contrast, the BRT’s average construction cost is $25 million per mile which includes new pavement.
