The success story that is the new Toyota Prius continued into July as it once again topped the sales charts in Japan. The vehicle sold 27,712 units - that’s almost four times the 7,058 units it sold in the same month last year, according to data from the Japan Automotive Dealers Association.

In the US, Chrysler and General Motors fell into bankruptcy; while in Japan even its major automakers have been left reeling from significant profit falls.
