Since I'm still waiting on parts from ElectroAuto, I decided to take the plunge and do some extensive research on Lead-Acid battery technology. The 914 AC kit uses 8V golf cart batteries and I'm wondering if different batteries like Hawkers or Optima Yellow-Top batteries would be better.

Closing up more loose ends.

One of the other 914 kit converters questioned why the accessory battery couldn't stay in the original tray, but I decided to remove it anyway and have the accessory battery up in the front trunk near the DC/DC converter. It's a pity that we have to remove this, but the size of the golf-cart batteries clearly interfere with the latch.

at least, the recycling infrastructure for the well-established lead-acid batteries is robust. lead-acid batteries have a far better recycling rate than even aluminum bottles — over 90% of lead-acid batteries are recycled. None of the new electric cars are planning to use old-tech lead acid batteries.

If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. 80 miles was the range of the EV1 with Lead Acid batteries, that GM tried to use because they wanted the project to fail. You guys go ahead and buy your 40 mile per charge GM golf cart. check your facts.
