While the selection of hybrid models in the US has more than doubled since 2007, only 35% of hybrid vehicle owners choose to purchase a hybrid again when returning to market in 2011, according to recent analysis by Polk. As an example, the Honda Civic is the second most cross-shopped vehicle among both Toyota Prius and Honda Insight shoppers.

According to the Maritz Automotive Research Group, which conducted the research based on a telephone survey of 1,207 licensed American drivers 18 years of age or older, top of mind consumer awareness about the electric-only vehicle category outpaces gasoline-electric hybrids. Gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles rose from 15 to 22%.

The high voltage systems pose little to no risk of electric shock, either while driving or recharging. Don’t worry about dodging puddles in your Prius! The simple presence of gasoline in an ICE makes them principally more dangerous. Safety should be a priority for anyone making their next vehicle purchase.

Although the EPA has not as of this writing released the final fuel economy numbers for the US A3 e-tron, Filip Brabec, Director, Product Management, Audi of America, said that the figures will be around 83 to 86 MPGe combined (depending on the equipment level), with 35 to 39 mpg gasoline only and 16-17 miles of EV range.
