In the Americas, gasoline accounted for just above 40% of the products refined from petroleum in 2019, while in Europe and Asia Oceania, gasoline was less than 20%. The average per-km CO 2 emissions for gasoline-fueled cars was 128.62 The main drivers of efficiency have been technological improvements and higher sales of diesel cars, which typically have lower CO 2 emissions levels than gasoline equivalents. The biggest cars, measured by mass, were bought in Latvia, Sweden and Luxembourg.

Nordic Green, a company focused on the introduction of bio-methanol, has signed an Agency Agreement with BioMCN , a producer of bio-methanol, for the representation and sales of bio-methanol in Nordic (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland) and Baltic (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) countries.

The majority of vehicles registered in 2018 were powered by gasoline engines, with the fuel type making up 57% of all registrations.

The diesel crisis certainly affected the speed of growth in the market, but consumers are overcoming this by turning to more attractive gasoline and AFV solutions. Although there was a 26% drop in the Golf’s diesel registrations, this was offset by a 29% increase in its gasoline registrations.

However, it is important to note that diesel cars emit higher levels of some air pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide, compared to gasoline-driven equivalents. Cars with the highest average emissions were sold in Latvia (152g CO 2 /km) and Estonia (150g CO 2 /km).
