The Fisker Karma plug-in extended range electric vehicle ( earlier post ) made its public driving debut over the weekend, 19 months after being introduced as a concept. The Fisker Karma can reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in six seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h).

Karma Automotive on Thursday unveiled the Amaris, a plug-in hybrid coupe the company says is due to start production in the fourth quarter of next year, and confirmed that it’s moving closer to a replacement for the Revero sedan. Like the Revero, the Amaris will use a gasoline engine as a generator.

A123 Systems has entered a battery supply agreement with Fisker Automotive to supply battery systems for the Fisker Karma Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The Karma—an extended-range electric vehicle—is scheduled to be launched in late 2010. A123’s technology will ensure the Karma delivers.

Powertrain for the Karma. has received a $30-million purchase order for supplying key components and subsystems related to Quantum’s proprietary Q-Drive powertrain systems for the Fisker Karma production program under the terms of its supply agreement. Fisker Automotive has appointed its first group of 32 US retailers to market and service its luxury plug-in hybrid vehicles, beginning with the $87,900 Karma sedan later this year. Earlier in March, Fisker staged the European debut of the Karma sedan at the Geneva Motor Show. The Karma is an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV).

Some of the most talked-about electric vehicles are slated to debut later this year and can travel at least 100 miles on a single charge (even if some of them run on an auxiliary gasoline engine when the battery runs low). The Whip is a two-seater that can travel at a top speed of 35 mph for 40 miles per charge; it sells for around $19,000.
