The Fisker Karma plug-in extended range electric vehicle ( earlier post ) made its public driving debut over the weekend, 19 months after being introduced as a concept. The Fisker Karma can reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in six seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h). Carbon emissions are also lower than today’s hybrids.

Powertrain for the Karma. has received a $30-million purchase order for supplying key components and subsystems related to Quantum’s proprietary Q-Drive powertrain systems for the Fisker Karma production program under the terms of its supply agreement. Not all plug-in electric cars rely on battery power alone; some also have gasoline engines as backups, for longer range or more power. Last year, we identified six plug-in hybrid vehicles on sale during 2013. This year, the list gains three new entries (from BMW, Cadillac, and Mitsubishi) and loses one (the Fisker Karma).
