Azure Dynamics Corporation announced that AT&T has agreed to purchase two of the first Ford Transit Connect Electric vans. The Ford Transit Connect Electric is powered by Azure Dynamics’ Force Drive electric drivetrain with a lithium-ion battery pack from Johnson Controls-Saft.

The 2010 Ford Transit Connect. Ford is introducing the North American version of the 2010 Transit Connect light commercial vehicle at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show this week. Ford is collaborating with Smith Electric Vehicles to bring the electric Transit Connect to market in North America in 2010.

To support the rollout, Ford will rapidly expand the availability of EcoBoost gasoline engine technology, low CO 2 ECOnetic Technologies, vehicle electrification and driver assistance features. The Focus Electric will go on sale early next year. The Ford Mondeo Hybrid will be Ford’s first full hybrid-electric vehicle for Europe.
