Earlier post.) Potential lessees may nominate up to 160 acres for RD&D. Earlier post.) Secretary Salazar.
Schematic diagram of a shale gas well following hydraulic fracture treatment, with the relative depths of local water wells shown for scale. Hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) extracts natural gas by injecting a mixture of water, sand, and chemicals in short bursts at high pressure into deep underground wells.
These represent important additions, since there are significant quantities of cycloparaffins in conventional fuels and even higher quantities in fuels under development, such as those derived from oilsands. In model fuels, representing these components is important to capturing ignition quality and soot emissions.
A new report from the National Research Council examines and, when possible, estimates, “hidden” costs of energy production and use—such as the damage air pollution imposes on human health—that are not reflected in market prices of coal, oil, other energy sources, or the electricity and gasoline produced from them. of the estimated total.
Although EPA’s review of data sources available to the agency found specific instances where well integrity and waste water management related to hydraulic fracturing activities did impact drinking water resources, these were small compared to the large number of hydraulically fractured wells across the country.
