Honda Manufacturing in Indiana has begun production of the 2009 Civic GX, which is the only natural gas vehicle built by a major automaker in the USA. The Civic GX was actually first introduced in 1998 and is the cleanest internal combustion vehicle certified by the EPA - it is around 90 per cent cleaner than the average petrol powered car.

Golden West K-9 received the keys to three natural gas powered Honda Civic GX patrol cars for $26,000 each - but each came with a $4,000 Federal funded rebate. Golden West also plans to add around three more of the patrol cars and phase out the entire petrol fleet which consists of 28 vehicles clocking up around 40,000 miles a month.
