An electric exhaust gas turbocharger, which in future will be used for the first time in a series production model, is already in the final stages of development. This electronically-controlled electric motor drives the compressor wheel before this accepts the exhaust gas flow.

The technology group Wärtsilä is developing the combustion process in its gas engines to enable them to burn 100% hydrogen fuel. Wärtsilä has researched hydrogen as a fuel for 20 years, and has tested its engines with blends of up to 60% hydrogen and 40% natural gas. Hydrogen as part of the renewable electricity system of the future.

Texas-based Nacero, a company seeking to produce low- and zero-lifecycle carbon footprint gasoline blendstock ( earlier post ) has awarded a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC a 20-year power purchase agreement to supply wind power to Nacero’s planned flagship manufacturing facility in Penwell, Texas. Renewable natural gas.

The SL 43 features an M139 in-line two-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger—used for the first time in a production vehicle. The turbocharger is operated via the 48-volt electrical system, which also feeds the belt-driven starter-generator (RSG).

NYK Line, Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU), and Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) signed a joint R&D agreement for the commercialization of an ammonia-fueled ammonia gas carrier (AFAGC) that would use ammonia as the main fuel, in addition to an ammonia floating storage and regasification barge (A-FSRB).

The new VW Golf is now also available in certain markets with natural gas drive: the Golf TGI is equipped with a 1.5-liter liter four-cylinder engine with 96 kW / 130 PS and three natural gas fuel tanks. The tanks are integrated into the underbody and permit a range of around 400 kilometers (WLTP) in pure natural gas mode.
