The California Air Resources Board held a workshop on March 2 designed to kick off a pioneering effort to craft standards to help develop the next generation of cleaner cars. The new approach will link formerly separate standards to reduce toxic tailpipe emissions and greenhouse gas emissions into a single regulatory framework.

The US Department of Energy is planning to hold the 2009 Thermoelectrics Applications Workshop 29 September to 2 October in San Diego, CA. TE HVAC systems are strong candidates to replace current vehicular air conditioners using the refrigerant gas R-134a with a global warming potential that is 1,300 times that of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ).

The proposed amendments, known as LEV III, ask for more stringent tailpipe and greenhouse gas emission standards for new passenger vehicles sold between 2018 and 2025.
