Four new corporate partners—Best Buy, Johnson Controls, Pacific Gas and Electric, and Veolia—are joining the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Clean Fleets Partnership, a broad public-private partnership that assists the nation’s largest fleet operators in reducing the amount of gasoline and diesel they use nationwide.

The vehicles and infrastructure being funded include the use of natural and renewable gas, propane, ethanol, biodiesel, electricity, and hybrid technologies. The program includes the installation of 10 alternative fuel refueling sites (two B20, one Electric Recharging, and seven CNG). Total DOE award: $15,000,000.

At the 2023 Indianapolis 500 on May 28 in Indianapolis, Indiana, all 33 cars will be running on Shell 100-percent renewable biofuel, using carbon neutral motor oil, and rolling on Firestone Firehawk tires made with recycled plastics. The CNG (compressed natural gas) storage held about 80,000 cubic feet of renewable natural gas.
