The primary goal for Toyota and Kenworth’s participation in the project was to match nearly the performance of diesel-powered drayage trucks while eliminating emissions to provide a sustainable solution in heavy-duty transportation. Toyota plans to produce fuel-cell powertrain modules at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky from 2023.
PACCAR will work with Cummins to offer the new Cummins X15N natural gas engine ( earlier post ) in Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks. The engine will include the integration of the Cummins Clean Fuel Technologies fuel delivery system. The new X15N is capable of lower NO x levels than the 2024 EPA and CARB standards.
PACCAR announced that a Kenworth T680 fuel cell electric vehicle and a battery electric Peterbilt Model 579EV became the first Class 8 zero emissions vehicles to drive to the 14,115 foot summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado. Kenworth has been awarded three government grants totaling $8.6 million that will support low emissions projects involving Kenworth T680 Day Cabs targeted for use as drayage tractors in Southern California ports. AJR Trucking , a leading carrier for the United States Postal Service (USPS) and a major drayage carrier operating in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, has executed a purchase order for 50 Nikola Tre hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) trucks from Tom’s Truck Centers, a member of the Nikola Corporation sales and service dealer network.

Chart and Ground Force Worldwide (GFW) have launched of the first dual LNG/diesel fueling truck, designed and built for a large rock quarry customer in Florida.
