One of the challenges Clean Fleet Report takes seriously is to test the EPA fuel economy ratings for the cars, crossovers and trucks we review, knowing efficiency is a top priority when looking to purchase a new vehicle. Adding together the gasoline and electricity, the EPA estimates 105 MPGe (Miles Per Gallon Equivalent).

The sixth-generation Impreza (the first gen was shown at the 1992 Los Angeles Auto Show) received a new design and the return of the RS, a trim level on the first and second generations (1998-2005). The CVT, which has no gears like a conventional automatic transmission, would try to find the highest setting to maximize fuel economy.

The morning session started out with an hour long press conference, the highlight being the unveiling of the Volt’s 230 mpg preliminary EPA city fuel economy finding ( earlier post ), as well as a tour showing selected elements from the studios of the four GM North American brands: Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac.

It is rare when we post a review of a car that is only available in one of the 50 United States, but such is the case with the 2022 Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), which is only sold in California. The electric power comes from oxygen being introduced to a fuel cell filled with compressed hydrogen gas.
