Azure Dynamics Corporation and Ford Motor Company announced that New York Power Authority (NYPA), the nation’s largest state public power organization, has been added to the LEAD customer program for the Ford Transit Connect Electric van. The battery is rechargeable using either a 240-volt or standard 120-volt outlet.

New York City is adding 70 electric vehicles to its fleet: 50 new Chevrolet Volts, 10 fully electric Ford Transit Connect cargo vans, and 10 new fully electric Navistar E-star utility trucks. Taxi Medallion Management in Chicago has purchased 12 Ford Transit Connect Taxis running on compressed natural gas (CNG) for its fleet. The purchase is part of the company’s goal of reducing emissions by 25%, said Michael Levine, CEO of Taxi Medallion Management. The taxis have a 39-foot turning radius.
