New York City’s iconic fleet of taxis once included some EVs—but you have to look back more than a century to find them. As National Geographic explains in a recent article, electric taxis had a brief moment of popularity in the city in the 1890s. The fleet quickly grew from a dozen vehicles in 1897 to over 100 by 1899.

The project to deliver a fleet of the zero emission taxis to the streets of London in time for 2012 is on track, according to project fuel cell provider Intelligent Energy, with the first Fuel Cell Black Cabs covering a combined total of more than 8,000 miles in road and test track testing conditions.

The changes, announced on Thursday, apply to Zoox’s fleet of vehicles that it designed and built itself. Zoox said it will free up its specially designed vehicles to drive at speeds up to 45 miles per hour (72 kph), from 35 mph. Zoox has not given a timeline for when it thinks its fully autonomous vehicles will be ubiquitous.

General Motors’ (GM) self-driving taxi unit, Cruise, has “recalled” its fleet of vehicles following a viral crash with a bus earlier this week. It’s the first time all- electric vehicles have been added to the fleet since Waymo’s custom-designed EVs were phased out to make space for the Pacificas.

The fleet of fifty ix35 Fuel Cell cars will be available in Munich’s city centre and also in the areas of Schwabing, Haidhausen, Au and Glockenbachviertel. We expect to gain valuable information from day-to-day fleet operations which we will use to further develop our hydrogen technologies and to help expand the hydrogen infrastructure.
