XL recently completed a successful pilot deployment of school buses with Careful Bus Company in New York City outfitted with the XL hybrid system. In addition to the Careful Bus deployment, XL provides hybrid electric (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicle systems to municipal fleets across the US.

Pioneering methods to accelerate electric fleet adoption, AMPLY Power will demonstrate and document its Charging-as-a-Service approach for an all-electric school bus fleet in New York City. The $1-million project is being funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Fluid Truck has ordered 40 additional electric delivery trucks from Lightning eMotors for its New York City fleet. The Lightning Electric Class 4 commercial box trucks will deliver products to all five boroughs of New York City. The electric trucks will service all five boroughs, IKEA said.

With these new buses, Twin Rivers is now operating the largest zero-emission school bus fleet in North America, with 40 all-electric school buses in its fleet. Twin Rivers was among the first fleets in the United States to put all-electric buses into service when it received its first buses from Lion in 2016.

Allison Transmission’s eGen Flex, its next generation electric hybrid propulsion solution ( earlier post ), will be put into revenue service at New York City Transit (NYCT) in May. Moving these accessories to electric power reduces the strain on the engine, reducing fuel consumption and maintenance costs over the vehicle’s lifetime.

The truck will be unique on US roads when Con Edison takes possession early next year, running entirely on electricity as it lifts lineworkers and equipment as high as 60 feet for construction, maintenance and repair work. While initially small in scope, this represents an important step in Con Edison’s journey toward fleet electrification.
