A joint venture between Fisker Coachbuild and Quantum Technologies, Fisker Automotive was founded in 2005 with headquarters in Irvine, California, and has made the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports car its centrepiece. The company hopes to begin selling the Fisker Karma in mid 2010 in Europe.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Fisker is a good example. GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. Many others are not so careful.
