Austria-based OMV, an international, integrated oil, gas and chemicals company, announced its intention to become a net-zero (Scope 1, 2 and 3) company by no later than 2050. The gradual decline foresees a decrease in crude oil production by around 30% and natural gas production by around 15% by 2030.

Neste Oil is beginning the commercial use of tall oil pitch as a feedstock for refining into transportation fuel. Up until now, it has not been possible to use tall oil pitch, a residue produced by tall oil refiners ( earlier post ), as a commercial-scale feedstock for fuel refining purposes. Earlier post.).

Shell Oil Company is now producing oil from what it says is the world’s deepest subsea well at its Perdido Development. From Perdido, Shell accesses the Great White, Tobago, and Silvertip oil and gas fields through subsea wells directly below the facility and from wells up to seven miles away. Earlier post.)

Neste Oil has begun trials of Neste Green 100 diesel—a renewable drop-in hydrocarbon replacement for diesel, not biodiesel (fatty acid methyl esters)—in cars in Finland. The trial will include private individuals and Neste Oil employees. Drivers will fill up at selected Neste Oil service stations in Greater Helsinki.

Neste Oil has successfully started up Europe’s largest renewable diesel plant in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The Rotterdam plant has a capacity of 800,000 t/a and will increase Neste Oil’s total renewable diesel capacity to 2 million t/a. The plant was completed on-schedule and on-budget.
