Greater Washington DC will be an initial launch market for the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extendedrange. Chevrolet will deliver more than 100 Volts to several utilities across the US—including Pepco and Dominion, which serve Washington DC and its suburbs—as part of an extended demonstration program.
The arrangement will be announced at the New York Auto Show, where the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extendedrange will be on display. Chevrolet has previously announced that Volt sales will start simultaneously in California, Michigan and Washington DC, with other markets to follow.
In the US, GM has found that Chevrolet Volt demonstration units are a popular showroom draw for dealers as they let consumers look, touch and drive the electric car with extended-range capabilities. GM says that this is part of its plan to gain exposure for the vehicle and the Chevrolet brand.
