A recent preliminary road test of the Raser Hummer H3E, an H3 converted with a range-extended electric powertrain ( earlier post ), demonstrated more than 50 miles of all-electric range. In fact the H3E drove over 50 miles using only approximately 60% of the battery pack. Jim Spellman.

An American green technology company has developed a hybrid Hummer capable of over 100mpg. Raser Technologies, the company behind the hybrid hummer, claims to have achieved the impossible by greening up one of the cars with the worse environmental record. The Hummer H3E is a plug-in electric vehicle with an onboard rangeextender.
Based on cutaways shown by Scout Motors, the rangeextender will be small, and will mount not under the hood but at the rear of the vehicle, behind the rear axle and under the cargo flooran approach that will maintain the frunk but hopefully not impinge on off-road angles. Or its maxed out by the existing space of the ladder frame.

BYD , for examples, says their 60 milerange-extended vehicle can add 30 miles of range in ten minutes. For extendedrange I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. it seems to me there is too much range anxiety about these machines.
However, because of the duty cycle used by the Postal Service, which generally amounts to only about 18-20 miles per day on a fixed route, these vehicles are being built without the rangeextender seen on the concept.
