Diesel exhaust is a complex mixture of particles and gases and the specific component responsible for health effects has not been identified. Some of the gaseous compounds are known or suspected carcinogens.

At the USNA, the Power+ will capture the waste heat from an existing helicopter turbine used to train the USNA Midshipmen, using a custom designed exhaust gas heat exchanger provided by Creare.

The XLP system will have no special maintenance requirements. Fleets will maintain the complete OEM warranty, and get a three-year, 75,000 mile warranty from XL Hybrids on the XLP powertrain.

Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Vehicle deliveries begin in Spring 2012.
