Kenworth Truck Company is expanding its product line with the introduction of the Cummins Westport ISL G natural gas engine for the Kenworth T800 short hood and W900S models. Now available for order, Kenworth's natural gas models are focused on vocational, municipal, and pickup and delivery applications.

unveiled its next generation of high pressure direct injection natural gas technology platform, Westport HPDI 2.0. Westport HPDI uses natural gas as the primary fuel in a Diesel (compression ignition) cycle along with a small amount of diesel fuel as an ignition source. The natural gas is injected at the end of the compression stroke.

The Westport HD System offers class-leading performance for heavy-duty on-road Class 8 trucks and allows trucking fleets to move to lower-cost, domestically available and low-carbon natural gas and/or biogas. Factory installation of the GX is available in both Kenworth and Peterbilt tractors.

UPS has purchased another 48 heavy tractor trucks equipped to run on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Manufactured by Kenworth, the LNG tractors are powered by Westport HD Systems and initially will pull trailers on a transit lane linking Ontario, Calif., and Las Vegas, Nev., along with UPS’s 11 existing LNG tractors.
