The basic question addressed, which appears on the study homepage (epri-reports.org) is this: How would air quality and greenhouse gas emissions be affected if significant numbers of Americans drove cars that were fueled by the power grid? The use of electricity is an important attribute of PHEVs. I truly hope we have turned a corner.
T he Fall edition of the EPRI Journal has a feature story called The Plug In Hybrid Vehicle: Beyond Gasoline by Lucy Sanna Here is the PDF. With roughly 16 million new cars sold in the United States every year, once auto manufactures commit to the PHEV, that tipping point should be easily reached." Become a Partner today.
O ften when I talk about Plug-Ins , I say that PHEV's are a perfect embodiment of the 80-20 rule. But in the case of the PHEV , the logic goes something like this: Roughly 80% of our daily trips are under 35 miles. Here's a piece of it: Why do PHEVs reduce greenhouse pollution ? And the remaining 20% are longer trips.
However, most assessments of possible energy change options—including studies of the impacts of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)—to date have neglected non-CO 2 air pollutant impacts on radiative forcing, according to the authors. Radiative forcing in the S1 and S2 scenarios with a 20-year timeframe.
Although consumer tax credits for PHEVs enjoyed bipartisan support in both houses of Congress, concerns over other tax portions of the energy bill resulted in the entire tax package being removed from the original bill. The bill would provide a tax credit of between $4,000 and $6,000 for purchasers of a PHEV.
However, J1711 will retain a “utility factor” component to determine the relative fuel economy of a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicle in charge-depleting mode. The revised Recommended Practice will focus on PHEVs and be coordinated with both California Air Resources Board (CARB) and International Standardization Organization (ISO) standards.
