Researchers at MIT’s Photonic Microsystems Group are developing a LiDAR-on-a-chip system that is smaller than a dime, has no moving parts, and could be mass produced at a very low cost to be used in self-driving cars, drones, and robots. Researchers at MIT and startup Novogy have engineered bacteria and yeast ( Escherichia coli , Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Yarrowia lipolytica ) used as producer microbes in biofuel production to use rare compounds as sources of nutrients. However, this is not the case for the more advanced biofuels and biochemicals under development.
