General Motors plans to invest more than $500 million in Arlington Assembly to prepare the plant for production of future internal combustion engine (ICE) full-size SUVs, subject to successful discussions with local government officials. The Yukon Denali Ultimate trim also tied for first in the J.D. Initial Quality Study.

Nat G CNG Solutions has delivered the first natural gas half-ton pickup trucks with General Motors’ 5.3-liter liter direct injection engine. The DuraDrive DI system is a completely redesigned system using Tier 1 OEM tested components engineered to accommodate the unique operating characteristics of the direct injection engine.

General Motors will invest approximately $385 million to prepare the Romulus Engine plant in Michigan for production of an all-new, fuel-efficient engine program. Romulus-built engines also are used for marine and industrial applications. The investments will support tooling and equipment upgrades.

General Motors developed its Two-Mode Hybrid powertrain control system using Model-Based Design software from The Mathworks. The new certifications cover approximately 200 2010-2012 General Motors Chevrolet- and GMC-brand light-duty trucks and SUV platforms with 4.8- liter engines. The GMC-brand vehicles include Sierra, Yukon and Savana vans. The JTG liquid-propane injection application is a fully-integrated, mono-fuel or bi-fuel engine system.

Unlike cylinder deactivation strategies that shut off a fixed number of cylinders, DSF makes dynamic firing decisions every 90 degrees of crank angle on a V8 (180 degrees on a 4 cylinder engine) based on how much torque is requested. DMD, for example, uses pulses of motor operation at high motor efficiency to deliver requested torque.
